TODAY IS WORLD FREEDOM DAY, SAYS BUSH

In Washington DC two days ago, US President George W Bush had hailed the fall of the Berlin Wall and proclaimed World Freedom Day.

“... we are reminded that injustice overseas can threaten our way of life at home, and we renew our commitment to helping those who suffer under the weight of oppression.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim November 9, 2008, as World Freedom Day. I call upon the people of the United States to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities, reaffirming our dedication to freedom and democracy.”

Vice President Dick Cheney had a similar message in his address to the Virginia Military Institute.

In the US, Vice-President Dick Cheney addressed those at the Virginian Military Institute.

“In the great struggles of the 20th century, Americans never gave in to the demands of dictators, militarists, Nazis or communists. In the great struggle of the early 21st century, we will never give in to the jihadists. We will oppose and confront them until we defeat them.”

In the battle for freedom, there can only be one loser.

p.s In Iraq, a project is launched in Basra to provide potable water to two million more Iraqis. In all, CentCom announces that 820 water supply projects have been completed by the US Army with another 85 ongoing. 21 of the estimated 27.5 million Iraqis now have potable water access, according to the Associated Press.
